Morton - Ronald E. "Ron" McCuskey, 72, formerly of Morton, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Lewisville Medical Center in Lewisville, Texas.
Born Feb. 19, 1944, in Peoria, to Emory L. and Eleanor V. (Goodale) McCuskey, he married Susan E. Eaton on Feb. 3, 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Susan McCuskey of Lewisville, Texas; his children, Kristia (Dennis) Leyendecker and Shannon (Kerri) McCuskey, all of Lewisville, Texas and Stacy (Eric) Flaum of Chicago; five grandchildren, Hunter, Alex, and Chloe Leyendecker and Aidan and Max McCuskey; and his twin brother, Donald L. (Norma) McCuskey of Lacon.
Following his service in the United States Army as a Sergeant Spec Five during the Vietnam War, he began his 35-year career at Caterpillar Inc. Ron retired in 2003 as a Supervisor of Manufacturing and Engineering. He served as Past President of PTC User and then consulted for Parametric Technology Corporation of Needham, Mass., as Executive Advisor for the next nine years.
As a member of the Morton United Methodist Church, he was past president of the United Methodist Men, a member of the Ad Council, past Chairman of the Finance Committee, a Stephen Minister and liaison for Scout Troop 318.
When his children were young, Ron was a Cub Scout Leader, T-ball, Soccer and baseball coach, and served as past President of the Citizen Education Council of Bettendorf, Iowa. He was also a member and past president of the Pekin Country Club and a member of the American Legion Post in Morton. Ron was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, fishing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals. He was known to his close friends and family as a man who could be counted on to lend a helping hand, believed in supporting his children, and their friends, and always put his family's needs before his own. Ron's legacy of commitment to service, love of country, family, friends and God will remain in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Cremation has been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at Morton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Motta officiating. Full military rites will be conducted following the service at the church.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association (in honor of Ron McCuskey); to The Mended Hearts, Inc. in Dallas, Texas; or to the Morton United Methodist Church Building Fund.
