MORTON - Nancy L. Bangasser, 84, of Morton, passed away at 7:23 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, at her home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edwin and Linnoir (Connor) Bischoff. She married James Bangasser on Jan. 14, 1956, in Park Hills, Ky.
Surviving are her husband, James Bangasser of Morton; two daughters, Carol Ross of Urbana, Ill. and Myra (Danny) Patrick of Bradford, Ill.; one son, Brian Bangasser of Morton; two grandchildren, Aliya Ross of Urbana and Josh Pfister of Galva; one sister, Myra Cauthen of Walton, Ky.; and one brother, Tom Bischoff of Richwood, Ky.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Joan Cleveland.
She graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing-Cincinnati in 1952.
Nancy was a United States Ltjg Navy veteran having served from 1954 to 1956. She was stationed at Naval Air Station Memphis.
Nancy was a geriatric nurse at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton and Director of Nursing at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Peoria.
While working the night shifts and raising three children with her husband, Jim, Nancy found time to be Co-Founder and a member of the Board of Directors of We Care and Morton Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of the Board of Directors and secretary for Peoria Area Peace Network. Nancy was a co-founder of Tom Dooley Youth League and a volunteer with Catholic Worker House, Phoenix House, Blessed Sacrament Altar and Rosary Society and St. Joseph Center for Sharing. She was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton.
Nancy co-published books by author and PAPN Pres. John Greiner. As a Missionary of Charity soup kitchen volunteer, Nancy attended Mother Teresa's 1995 visit at the Cathedral and received one of 2000 medals (directly in hand) from Mother Teresa.
A private family funeral service will be held at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
