MORTON - Dwayne A. McQuitty, M.D., 57, of Morton, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016.
He was born Aug. 19, 1958, in Kansas City, Kan., to Douglas and Carol (Jackson) McQuitty. He married Amy Hender on Sept. 18, 1993, in Peoria, Ill.
She survives with their daughter Sarah along with extending family members including his father, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother.
Dwayne served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. Upon his completion of service, he graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, followed by the University of Kansas Medical School. Upon graduation in 1989, he did his General Surgery training at the University of Illinois (Peoria) and continued a Urology Residency at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas). He completed his training at the University of Pittsburgh with a Fellowship in Transplantation Surgery. After holding various positions around the country, Dr. McQuitty began his practice in the Peoria, Ill. area in 2002.
Dwayne referred to his patients as "his kids" and he gave them the love, attention, care and concern of a parent regardless of the hour of the day or day of the week. He dedicated his life's work and found great personal fulfillment in helping others through their personal medical journeys.
Dwayne was a proud member of the Empire Lodge #126 in Pekin. But in the end, if one were to ask Dwayne what he would want to be remembered for it would certainly be the unconditional love and loyalty he so freely gave to his wife and daughter.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton, with Pastor Jeff Anderson and Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps. Following the service at the church, there will be a time to pay respects to Amy. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
The family would like to thank everyone for their compassion and prayers during this trying time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TAPS, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554 or Bethel Lutheran School, 325 Queenwood Rd., Morton, IL 61550.
