DARRELL D. "DAVID" KOEHLER
MORTON - D. David Koehler, 83, of Morton, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Lake Fork, Ill., to William A. and Bessie G. (Sherwood) Koehler. He married Ina Blanche "Bunny" Adams on Aug. 6, 1955 in Lincoln.
Surviving are four daughters, Beverly (Jack) Alleman of Morton, Pamela (Gary) Richmond of Morton, Lisa Koehler of Naples, Fla., Tracy Parker of Odessa, Fla.; one brother, William Gary "Pudge" Koehler; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Mike and Ed; five sisters, Della, Norma Jean, Betty, Shirley and Linda.
He served in the military from Dec. 8, 1952 through Nov. 28, 1954. His basic training was with the 101st Airborne Division. After basic training, David took six weeks of leadership training. He was ordered to Korea, then to Hokkaido, Japan to serve with the First Calvary Division, 7th Regiment assigned to Headquarter Company.
David worked as a salesman for 12 years with Armour & Company. He later worked as an executive salesman for Dubuque Packing Co. for 33 years where he retired in 1995.
David and his wife enjoyed spending part of the year living in Ft. Myers, Fla. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, cruising and spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Morton Christian Church and Ft. Myers First Christian Church. He also was a member of the American Legion in Morton.
A visitation will be held at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 and from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at the Morton Christian Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Service `at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Hirstein Cemetery, where Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
