EAST PEORIA - August Witbracht, 88, of East Peoria, passed away at 3:43 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Morton Villa Care Center.
He was born June 24, 1928, in Percy, Ill., to Robert and Alma (Knop) Witbracht. He married Ruby Peterson on April 24, 1948, in Rock Island, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby of East Peoria; two sons, Paul Witbracht and Rob (Mary Jane) Witbracht, both of East Peoria; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one son, Terry; three brothers, three sisters and two great grandchildren.
August was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He later served in the United States Army National Guard during the Korean War serving for 13 months in Korea.
He worked 34 years for TP&W Railroad, retiring in 1988 as a brakeman/conductor.
He was a member of Cross Point Church in East Peoria and a 57 year member of Morton Masonic Lodge #352, where he was a past Worshipful Master and a 12 year member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge #462. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Peoria.
August and his wife enjoyed traveling as they toured out west, Hawaii, Florida, Mexico and the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Cremation Rites have been conducted. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Following visitation at 2:30 p.m., a Masonic Service will be held followed by a Celebration of Life Service with Pastor Josh Gutteridge officiating. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where military rites will be conducted by the United States Army.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO or Special Olympics Illinois in Normal.
