MACKINAW - Ardith (Ardie) Sharon Somers, 78, of Mackinaw, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016.
She was born April 27, 1938, in Hazel Park, Mich., to Harold and Audrey (Ross) Watts. She married Philip W. Somers on June 16, 1962, in Pontiac, Mich.
Ardie is survived by her husband; son, Philip (Catherine) Somers of Loxahatchee, Fla., daughter, Sharon Somers Smith of Pekin, daughter, Sally (Ken) Powell of Dayton, Tenn., and one sister, Gail Gossett of Troy, Mich. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Doy Ballard, and brothers, Gary Watts and Robert Watts.
A gifted musician, Ardie declined a position with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to become a teacher. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1960 with a degree in music education. A pianist, composer, and arranger, she performed and taught throughout her life. She loved to use her talents to worship the Lord, and Ardie blessed many churches in music ministry over the years.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw. The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at New Castle Bible Church, with Pastor Dennis Schlappi and Pastor Kevin Sauder officiating. Burial will be in New Castle Bible Church Cemetery in Mackinaw.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to New Castle Bible Church, Mackinaw, Illinois.
